Op woensdag 15 juni 2011 organiseren Pure Sign en Coworks een DUG in de kantoren van Pure Sign te Gent.

Programma:

De presentatie gaat over hoe Panels, Page Manager en 960 grid system te gebruiken om de ontwikkelingstijd van uw Drupal 7 website te verkorten.

Anthony Ringoet van Pure Sign geeft een introductie tot het 960 grid system en hoe deze te gebruiken in Drupal. Een grid system laat toe om snel de layout van de website op te bouwen.

Toon Ketels van Coworks gaat dieper in op hoe Panels en PageManager in combinatie met 960gs te gebruiken. Deze modules vullen 960 gs goed aan en bieden sterke controle over welke content in het grid weer te geven. Er wordt ook kort aandacht geschonken aan de performantie implicaties van deze architectuur.

Naast de presentatie geeft een live demo een beter beeld hoe de verschillende Drupal modules in Drupal 7 te gebruiken.

Ook is er zoals altijd de mogelijkheid om achteraf met andere Drupal-gebruikers iets te drinken, aangeboden door Pure Sign. Als je met specifieke vragen of problemen zit, kan je deze zeker voorleggen aan aanwezige Drupalspecialisten.

Indien je bepaalde vragen zeker beantwoord wil zien rondom het gepresenteerde onderwerp, kan je dit reeds in de commentaren laten weten. We proberen dit dan mee op te nemen in de presentatie.

Doelgroep:

Basiskennis van Drupal en Drupal concepten maakt deze DUG makkelijker te volgen. Kennis van PHP, Drupal module development en CSS grid system is niet nodig.

Praktisch:

De presentatie begint om 20u00 en neemt ongeveer een uur en een kwart in beslag.
Daarna is er wat tijd voor vragen.
Als je langskomt, laat het ons dan weten via de sign-up optie onderaan.

Hi Bladedu,

Just a little update on the presentation's language. We decided to present in Dutch since almost everybody will be Dutch speaking. This makes it easier for everyone to follow.

Now, we're willing to present in English, if more people need it to be that way. But since you're the onlyone who's requesting it, it's going to be in Dutch.

If you can find other people who need it to be in English, we will change the presentation to it.

So go ahead, and find more English speaking people ;-)

I'm having difficulties on having these kind of sessions in Dutch. Everybody speaks a decent level of English so I can't believe that there is any issue. Don't take this wrong, I just think it is too bad that our international developers are so eager to go, but just can't as they wouldn't understand any of it. For me the default language in IT remains English, and slides that are going to be published afterwards should be in English anyway.

I certainly understand your point, but I see also evidence of people who like explanation in their mother tongue (eg. hence the existence of this site vs drupal.org).
Since it's a local event that won't be recorded, I don't think we should make it harder (even if slightly) for the majority of people that will show up. Even though I feel bad for the 1 or 2 people that won't be showing up because of that (they could surely come for the drinks and socialising though :))
But given the myriad of english resources on Drupal that are out there, I think a local approach is the best way to go in this particular case.

I'm with you.

We had a little debate about whether to present it in English or Dutch. Most of the DUG's in Belgium are organised in Dutch. And although many speak decent English, we don't want to make it harder for those who don't. We're afraid the benefits of presenting in English (for one or two people) don't outweigh the fact that it makes it a lot harder for 40% of the audience, while 50% just don't care which language it is in (are comfortable with both).

We might be wrong here. So if enough people state their sentiment (pro Dutch/pro English/don't care) and it happens English is the way to go, we are going to present it in English.

So let's motivate everyone to share their language preference!

I think it depends on location and topic of the sessions.

Probably DUG sessions in Brussels will have more chance to get non-dutch speaking people.
The more advanced the topic of the sessions the more I would go for English.

This session is intermediate and in Gent, so its a bit harder to decide. For me personally it doesn't matter what language the session is in.

Ik vrees dat we niet over de technische setup beschikken om de sessie op video op te nemen...
De slides zullen achteraf wel beschikbaar worden gesteld, maar dat is misschien een magere troost :)

De videobewerking is gelukt en zelf het geluid is goed (wel wat geruis tussen, maar de sprekers zijn goed verstaanbaar). Maar het lukt me nog niet om de video up te loaden naar Vimeo (Youtube laat maar 15min toe).

Ik volg de instructies hier staan: http://vimeo.com/help/compression, maar nog geen resultaat. Iemand die de juiste render settings kent? Ik gebruik Pitivi 0.13.5 op Ubuntu 10.10.

Ik krijg hem meestal door vimeo met een apple intermediate codec, maar op ubuntu zal dat niet beschikbaar zijn neem ik aan. Vimeo doet bij mij ook regelmatig lastig met de proporties van de video.
Als je mij je file kan bezorgen via RS of iets dergelijks wil ik het gerust nog eens door een compressor gooien en uploaden naar mijn vimeo pro account.

Thanks for this presentation!

Just a few ideas 'pro English':
If presentations like these would be done in English the entire Drupal community would benefit, and we would benefit from the international feedback it could get. In this case for example international Omega users could connect / give feedback, and we'd move forward faster because we're sharing knowledge, approaches and ideas.

It would be nice too if the recordings would have screen capture video instead of only a camera filming a presentation.

I completely understand if the idea was to give a small presentation on a topic it's more of a hassle to get the extra recordings and do the presentation in English, but I also see huge benefits in going the extra mile.
